Earth Porn – Damanjodi

Eastern Ghats in the Indian state of Odisha (formerly known as Orissa) encompasses some breath taking landscapes.

These are some snaps from the picturesque valley of Damanjodi taken on the way to the hill tops of NALCO’s mines i.e. bauxite reserve.

These pictures are 100% genuine, no editing, no filters and apparently these were not taken from any DSLR, but from a general purpose digital camera.

Stunning? Breathtaking?

Wish to visit?

Not so soon. You may visit Damanjodi and the placed nearby, but not Mines. Apparently these pictures are from Nalco Mines.

Visiting Nalco Mines may require you special permits as the mines are guarded and patrolled heavily by para-military security forces (CISF) and this place had been targets of Maoist guerrilla militants i.e. naxalites in the past.

You may obtain these permits only through some contacts i.e. if you’re friend or family member of a NALCO employee, or know someone in the Ministry or you’ve contacts with any officers of NALCO.

Besides it, Damanjodi is not a well known tourist place. Therefore, this place is not backpackers’ friendly. There are fewer lodging facilities. Cab services are scarce. You’ve to be on your own – you’ve a bike or car – good enough. You’ve a friend who has a bike or a car, or knows a rented car driver and show you around – even better.

Is this place unsafe? – Certainly not. This place is as safe as milk or water or may be an aircraft. Militant attacks are extremely rare. You wont find yourself in trouble 99.9% of the time. It’d be a matter of sheer bad luck if anything wrong happens.
